Biarritz
Biarritz,
the name is sinominous with surfing!
For anyone
in Europe, if you think surfing - you
automatically think Biarritz. It is the home for
European surfing, and it matches its reputation!
Biarritz has always been a town that has drawn
people to it. It was the destination for royalty in
the 18th century, nobility and the rich in the early
20th Century. It magnificent homes and buildings lay
testament to this. Now, it the central attraction
for all things surfing. |

Biarritz is a large
sea side town and is one of the principal resorts
on the Côte Basque, and the most famous part of the Pays
Basque. The architecture and atmosphere in Biarritz is simply
stunning. The architecture Biarritz
is not typically Basque, but rather a unique blend of 19th century
city residences, large and expansive, made of local stone
bricks. If you bought one of these houses now, you would
probably find titles such as the Prince, Duke, Baron, Marquee
etc. on the title deeds.
Biarritz has a lot
more than beautiful buildings to offer today. It's a vibrant
cosmopolitan town with magnificent beaches, golf courses and
numerous sporting facilities, and of course - surf. Surfing
started in France here and surfers come from all
over the world to ride the waves. The Biarritz Surf Festive each
year brings together surfers from all over the world, and an
estimated 150,000 spectators making it one of the largest surf
festivals in the world.
But more than
anything it is the 'feel' you get in Biarritz. It is hard to put
an exact finger on it - but as soon as you are there you feel
both at home and in awe of the beachscape, the waves, and the
pure beauty of the place.
